ZHANG BAICHUN (BAICHUN ZHANG)

PhD in Philosophy, Professor, Head of the Department of Religious Studies, Beijing Normal University.

Was born in 1965 in Heilongjiang province (China).

Graduated from the Department of Mathematics, Harbin Pedagogical University (China, 1986), and took PhD courses at the same University (1986). From October 1988 to November 1993, he studied at the postgraduate (PhD) courses of the Philosophy Department of St. Petersburg State University. The topic of PhD thesis is “The problem of existence in philosophy and science.”

Since 1994 he has worked at the China Petroleum University. Associate Professor (since 1995), Professor (since 2000). From October 1996 to July 1997 he was an intern at the Gubkin Academy of Oil and Gas (Moscow), at the same time attended two lecture cycles at the Institute of professional retraining and advanced training at the Moscow State University. From March to June 2001, he was on an internship at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

From September 2019 to February 2020 he got an internship at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (scientific supervisor - Academician A.V. Smirnov).

Since 2002 he has been working at the Philosophy Department of Beijing Pedagogical University.

Head of the Center for the Study of Russian Culture at the Beijing Pedagogical University.

In 2019 he was elected a President of the Chinese Association for Russian Philosophy.

In 2022, Zhang Baichun was elected a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a degree in Philosophy.

Research interests: Russian philosophy, Russian Orthodox Church, Russian culture, comparative research of Russian and Chinese culture.

Member of the editorial board “Philosophical Journal”, “Philosophical Sciences” and other research journals, both in Chinese and Russian.
