In 1980, he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Leningrad State University.
In 1983 he presented his Ph.D. thesis in philosophical sciences at Leningrad State University.
In 1998 he defended his doctoral dissertation at St. Petersburg State University (the degree was approved in 1998) in the specialty 22.00.05 political sociology.
1983 to 2000 worked as a teacher (assistant and associate professor) of the Faculty of Philosophy of Leningrad State University - St. Petersburg State University. Since September 2000 he has been working as a professor at the Faculty of Sociology at St. Petersburg State University.
Since 1985 to the present time he has been working as a member of dissertation councils at St. Petersburg State University.
In 2002, by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation, he was awarded the academic title of Professor in the Department of Sociology political and social processes.
In 2003, by the decision of the general meeting of the Russian Academy of Social Sciences, he was awarded the title of full member (Academician).
He has published over 100 works on general sociological and political-sociological topics, including 11 books (monographs, textbooks, textbooks), 8 brochures, several dozen articles in scientific journals.

In March 2021 he made reports at the All-Russian conference IKO-21 at St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University (LETI) and at the international conference "Sorokin Readings 2021" at Lomonosov Moscow State University
