Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of English Philology and Translation, Faculty of Humanities, St. Petersburg State University of Economics.   I.V. Kononova was born in 1971 in Ussuriysk, Primorsky Krai (Russia). In 1994, she graduated with honors from the Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute, the Faculty of Foreign Languages.  From 1995 to 1998, she took a postgraduate course at the Herzen State Pedagogical University (St. Petersburg). In 1998, she defended the dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences on the problem «Metaphoric extension of the English verb semantics» (10.02.04. –   Germanic languages). From 2001 to 2004, she was the head of the Department of English Philology at the Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute.

The academic title of associate professor (docent) was awarded in 2002.

I.V. Kononova completed a doctoral degree program at the Herzen State Pedagogical University in 2007. In 2010, she defended the dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philology on the topic «The Structure and language representation of the British national moral and ethical  ideosphere (in synchrony and diachrony)» in the speciality 10.02.04. – Germanic languages.

Since 2011, she has been working at the Faculty of Humanities of St. Petersburg State University of Economics. Currently, she is a professor at the Department of English Philology and Translation.

I.V. Kononova is the Chairperson of the Dissertation Council 24.2.386.05 for the defense of dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences, the degree of Doctor of Philology in the speciality 5.9.6. «Languages of Peoples of foreign Countries (Germanic languages)» at the St. Petersburg State University of  Economics. Professor Kononova’s main research focus is on linguoculturology, diachronic conceptology, corpus studies of text and discourse, cognitive poetics, and lexical semantics. She is the author of more than 90 scientific and educational works, including 3 monographs.
