Andrey F. Ivanov was born in 1965 in Leningrad. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Leningrad State University (current name – Institute of Philosophy of St. Petersburg State University) with a degree in Philosophy in 1987, having received the qualification of a philosopher, lecturer of philosophy and social science.
From 1987 to 1990, he studied at full-time postgraduate courses in Philosophy at St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University.
In 1991 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of philosophical sciences (Ph.D.) at Leningrad State University; and in 2005 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at St. Petersburg State University in specialty “Philosophy of Science and Technology”.
In 1997 Andrey F. Ivanov was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor and the academic title of Full Professor - in 2010.
After completing successfully the postgraduate program, he worked at St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University – as an instructor since 1990, as an Assistant Professor since 1996, and as a Professor since 2007. From 2016 till now Professor Ivanov is the Head of the Philosophy Department.
Professor Ivanov has been the Editor-in-chief of the scientific journal «Discourse» since the foundation of the Journal in 2015. He is also a member of the editorial board of the scientific electronic journal Studia Humanitatis Borealis (ISSN 2311-3049).
In 2004-2008 Ph.D. Ivanov worked as a visiting lecturer at the Department of Philosophy of Science and Technology (Faculty of Philosophy, St. Petersburg State University).
The scientific interests of Professor Ivanov lie in the field of philosophy, methodology and logic of science, philosophy of information reality, as well as ontology and epistemology. He is the author of more than 85 scientific and educational works, including two monographs.
Professor Ivanov is a Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the annual All-Russian scientific conference “Information - Communication - Society” (Proceedings collections of the ICS Conference are registered at the RSCI), which has been held at St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University since 2000.
Professor Ivanov was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (2011), as well as Letters of Commendation by St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University (2006, 2015). In 2020, Professor Ivanov was awarded the title of Honorary Worker of the Education Sector of the Russian Federation. He is a member of the Russian Philosophical Society and the Russian Society of History and Philosophy of Science (member of the Council of the St. Petersburg Branch).
