Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Mathematical Linguistics, Faculty of Philology, St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU).
Was born in 1953 in St. Petersburg.
Graduated from the Faculty of Biology and Soil Science of St. Petersburg State University with a degree in Biologist-Microbiologist in 1976.
From 1984 to 1987 he studied at the full-time postgraduate study of the Faculty of Philology of St. he also defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philology in the specialties 10.02.21 - "Structural, Mathematical and Applied Linguistics" and 09.00.01 - "Ontology and Theory of Knowledge".
He worked in the laboratory of immunohematology of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1976-1978, St. Petersburg). He was engaged in Precambrian paleontology at the All-Union Scientific Research Petroleum Institute VNIGRI (1978-79, St. Petersburg) and at the Institute of Precambrian Geology and Geochronology of the Academy of Sciences USSR (1979-80, St. Petersburg). From 1980 to 1984 and from 1987 to 1989 he was a crystallogenesis laboratory employee at Research Institute of the Earth's crust, St. Petersburg State University.
From 1989 to 2000 he was senior researcher, from 2000 - consultant of the Institute of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry named after S.M. Sechenov Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg), since 1997 - Member of the Institute for National Model of Economy (Moscow). 2000 - 2002 - senior researcher at the Center for Research and Educational Programs of the St. Petersburg Union of Scientists,
in 2002 - Research Fellow at the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences,
in 2002-2003 - Vice-rector for science of the Higher Religious and Philosophical School (ARFS),
in 2003-2004 he held the post of Professor of the Department of National Security, Faculty of Security, St. Petersburg State Technical University (Polytechnic Institute),
in 2004-2006 he held the post Professor of the Department of Advanced Studies in Philology of the Center for Retraining and Advanced Training of Scientific and Pedagogical Personnel in Philology and Linguistic Studies of the Philological Faculty of St. Petersburg State University,
in 2005-2006 he held the post Professor of the Department of Culturology and Global Studies of the Baltic State Technical University (Voenmech named after D.F. Ustinov),
in 2006-2012 he held the post of Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics of the same University, from February 2007 to the present he is Professor of the Department of Mathematical Linguistics, Faculty of Philology, St. Petersburg State University.
Main interests lie in the field of hermeneutics of specialized forms of activity (cognitological hermeneutics, non-fiction hermeneutics), theoretical biology, classification theory, mathematical linguistics. He is the author of about 430 scientific and educational works (including 6 books ), editor of several collections.
S.V. Chebanov is one of the founders and leaders of the Seminar on Theoretical Biology (1972) (now - Seminar on Biohermeneutics from 1992 to 2003 - of the St. Petersburg Union of Scientists and from 2002 to 2019 - of the St. Petersburg Linguistic Society; currently in a state of reorganization ), City Seminar on Semiotics (2002-2011). He was a member of the Regional Council of Young Scientists (1978-84); All-Union Council of Groups of Theoretical Biology (1978-79); section of theoretical biology of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the USSR (1979-80).
He is the organizer and participant of schools in theoretical biology (1975-96, 2000), schools and seminars on the theory and methodology of classification (from 1979 to the mid-80s), the inter-university group "Text as a subject of interdisciplinary research" and its events, Moscow-Petersburg seminar on general morphology (1992-94), Philosophical seminar of the Humanitarian Fund named after A.S. Pushkin (1992-94), the program "Jerusalem-3000" of the school-club "Beit" (St. Petersburg, 1995-96), etc.
Member of the J. von Ixskull International Society (Tartu, since 1993), the International Association for Semiotic Research (since 1999) and its Executive Committee (2004-2014), the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Pokrov Association (2002-2003), the editorial board of the International Journal of Biosemiotics (2005-2014), Public Interdisciplinary Scientific Council for Cenology (2004-2014), editorial board of the journal "General and Applied Cenology" (2006-2008), editorial board of the journal "Holism and Health", editorial board of the journal "Studies of Language and Modern Humanitarian Knowledge" , the interuniversity collection "Structural and Applied Linguistics", the collection "METHOD: Moscow Yearbook of Proceedings from Social Science Disciplines."
