Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Theory and History of Sociology, Honorary Professor of St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU).
He was born on June 25, 1937 in the Irkutsk Region. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy, Leningrad State Universitynamed after A. A. Zhdanov (St. Petersburg State University) with a degree in Philosophy in 1964. From 1965 to 1968 he studied in graduate school. In 1968 he presented his Ph.D. thesis on ethnosociological problems at Leningrad State University, specialty 09.00.11 - "Social Philosophy". In 1982 he was awarded the title of professor.
Since 1968 he has been working at St. Petersburg State University. Since 1968 assistant, since 1976 - associate professor, since 1982 - professor, and since 1986 - head of the department. In 1987 he was elected on a competitive basis (for the first time in the USSR) director of the Research Institute for Complex Social Research at Leningrad State University (NIIKSI). In 1989 he was appointed Dean-organizer of the Faculty of Sociology, and from 1990 to 2000 - Dean of the new faculty. In 1989 he created the Department of Theory and History of Sociology, which he headed for 25 years.
A.O. Boronoev is a well-known scientist, one of the organizers of sociological education in the country and the head of the scientific school "Research of traditions and innovations of Russian sociology" (1990). From the mid-90s of the XX century to the present, he has been implementing three projects. The first is the preparation and publication of the works of the classics of Russian sociology (10 volumes were published); the second one - research and publication of a collection of historical and sociological research (4 issues published); the third one - theoretical research, which is reflected in 12 issues-volumes of "Problems of Theoretical Sociology", published in 1994-2020. A.O. Boronoev's research and publishing projects have been supported by Russian scientific foundations for many years.
A.O. Boronoev has prepared 59 candidates and 14 doctors of sciences who work in Russia, CIS, Turkey, USA, Canada, Korea, etc.
A.O. Boronoev has actively participated in international projects and now he is taking part as well. He was a co-director of the Tempus-Tacis and Daad projects, and manages projects of Russian scientific foundations. In 2020-2022 leads the RFBR project (RSF). He lectured and made presentations at the universities of Berlin, Bielefeld, Warsaw, Santiago de Cuba, Strasbourg, Beijing, Wuhan, etc. He has published about 400 scientific and scientific-methodical works. Among them are monographs and textbooks and about 40 collective publications. A.O. Boronoev is a member of editorial boards and editorial boards of 7 journals, including the leading sociological journal in the country "Sotsis". On his initiative, the Day of the Russian Sociologist is celebrated on November 14 each year. Since 1990, he was the chairman of the Head Council for Sociology of the Ministry of Higher Education and for 20 years the chairman of the Dissertation Council for Sociology at St. Petersburg State University.
Scientific, pedagogical and social activities of Boronoev A.O. awarded with public (scientific) and government awards. He was awarded the Orders of Honor (1986), Friendship (2005) and medals For Military Valor (1970), In Memory of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg (2003), 350 Years of Voluntary Entry of Buryatia Of the Russian State" (2011)," Aghvana Dorzhieva "(2006), has the honorary title" Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation "(1997) and scientific awards - the Gold and Silver medals of P.A. Sorokin, medals of V.I. Vernadsky, G. I. Petrazhitsky, etc. In 2013 he was awarded the Prize named after I. M.M. Kovalevsky of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). In 2006, he was awarded the “For Pedagogical Excellence” Prize by the Academic Council of St. Petersburg State University.
