Doctor of Philology (1995), Professor of the Department of German Philology, St. Petersburg State University (since 1996) and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics, St. Petersburg State University (since 1995).

The range of scientific interests: theoretical and applied research in the field of linguistics, synchronous and diachronic studies of Germanic languages, historical pragmatics, oral and written speech in diachrony and synchrony, intercultural relations, cultural linguistics, innovative technologies in teaching foreign languages.

Under the leadership of G.A. Baeva there were pesented 1 doctoral and 28 candidate dissertations.

Author of over 150 scientific papers and teaching aids. Managing editor of a number of thematic collections of scientific works and collective monographs, including those published in German in Germany. She has many years of experience in international scientific cooperation with foreign universities in Germany, Switzerland, France, Austria, Poland, China, etc.

She has participated in many international scientific and educational projects. She has lectured at the Universities of Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig, Lausanne, Amiens and Greifswald. She was the organizer of four international conferences. She has taken part in various conferences in Russia and abroad many times.

Since 2005 she has been a member of the International Union of Germanists (IVG), since 2006 - a member of the Society of Germanists-Medievalists named after I. Oswald von Wolkenstein and the Society of Historians of Germanic Languages (GGSG), actively collaborates with the German Linguistic Society (Gesellschaft für Sprache und Sprachen - GeSuS).

Member of the editorial board of journals: “Bulletin of the Perm National Research Polytechnic University. Series "Problems of Linguistics and Pedagogy" (VAK), "Discourse" (St. Petersburg), (VAK) and the periodical collection "German Philology at St. Petersburg State University". Member of the Program Committee of the International Philological Conference of St. Petersburg State University since 2013.

G. A. Baeva was deputy chairman of the dissertation council for the award of the scientific degree of doctor of pedagogical sciences and a member of doctoral councils in Germanic languages at the Faculty of Philology of the University and up to the present at the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen, a member of the Educational and Methodological Council of the Philological Faculty. For many years she had been the Chairman of the State Attestation Commission at the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen, at the Federal Arctic University named after M.V. Lomonosov (Arkhangelsk), at the St. Petersburg State Technical University (LETI). In 2004 -2010 she was a member of the Scientific and Methodological Council for the Unified State Exam in Foreign Languages under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. In 2015-2019 she  was an accredited expert of Rosobornadzor.

In 1995, with the direct participation of G. A. Baeva, a new interdisciplinary direction was opened at the Faculty of Philology - the methodology of teaching foreign languages and cultures.

In 2006 G.A. Baeva was awarded the badge "Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation", in 1999, the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of General and Professional Education of the Russian Federation in connection with the 275th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University.
