В статье исследуется роль родного языка и перевода с иностранного на родной в процессе преподавания иностранного языка как для студентов непрофильных специальностей, так и в профессиональной подготовке студентов-лингвистов, особенно в отношении формирования межкультурной компетенции студентов, специализирующихся в области устного и письменного перевода. Отмечается важность непрерывного совершенствования владения родным языком в процессе овладения иностранным. Значение родного языка как педагогического инструмента в учебном процессе в вузе требует переоценки. Для преодоления существующих на сегодняшний день проблем в преподавания иностранного языка необходимо вести обучение в рамках единого филологического блока.</p></sec><sec><title>Методология и источники</title><p>Методология и источники. Исследование проводилось на материалах практических занятий, подготовленных авторами для проведения занятий со студентами-линг-вистами и студентами технических специальностей. В процессе исследования студенты выполняли предложенные задания, затем результаты обрабатывались и анализировались. Помимо этого, студентам было предложено заполнить опросные листы.</p></sec><sec><title>Результаты и обсуждение</title><p>Результаты и обсуждение. Важным результатом проведенного исследования стал вывод о необходимости интегрирования родного языка в процесс обучения иностранному языку для достижения оптимальных результатов в ходе формирования поликультурной личности. Была выявлена однозначная корреляция между степенью владения родным языком и показателями освоения иностранного языка.</p></sec><sec><title>Заключение</title><p>Заключение. Принимая во внимание стремительное развитие современного общества и информационных технологий, для успешного решения вышеперечисленных проблем необходимо разработать современные, постоянно обновляемые пособия, желательно электронные, которые не только предоставляют материал для обучения иностранному языку, но и уделяют особое внимание формированию двуязычной межкультурной коммуникативной компетенции.</p><p>Также представляется вполне уместным включить в программу подготовки курс по стилистике родного языка (в нашем случае – русского), специально разработанный для студентов, специализирующихся на письменном и устном переводе, и курс по нормативной английской/русской речи для переводчиков.</p></sec></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><sec><title>Introduction</title><p>Introduction. This article examines the role of the first language and translation in foreign language teaching-learning process as well as their relevance and importance in professional training of Linguistics students particularly with regard to the formation of intercultural competence of the students majoring in interpreting and translation. The exceptional role of improving and perfecting the first language, or native tongue proficiency, in this process is emphasized. The importance of a native language as a pedagogical instrument in university teaching-learning process needs to be reassessed. For overcoming present challenges of foreign language teaching an imbedded native language paradigm should be developed.</p></sec><sec><title>Methodology and sources</title><p>Methodology and sources. The present study was based on the authors’ personal experience in teaching EFL to engineering students, as well as in teaching the English Language and Translation from English into Russian. The students had to do the tasks, which were evaluated and analyzed. In addition, the students were asked to complete questionnaires.</p></sec><sec><title>Results and discussion</title><p>Results and discussion. One of the major the outcomes of the study is the conclusion that a native language should be an integral part of an efficient foreign language teaching paradigm to form a polylingual and polyculturally educated individuals. Unambiguous correlation between the native tongue proficiency and the foreign language mastering levels was discovered.</p></sec><sec><title>Conclusion</title><p>Conclusion. Taking into account the rapid development of modern society and IT, for successful solution of the above problems we need to design up-to-date modern textbooks, preferably, e-books that provide material for FL learning but also put special focus on forming intercultural competence.</p><p>It also seems quite appropriate to include a course on Stylistics of the Native Language (in our case, of the Russian Language) specially designed for students specialising in translation and interpreting and a course on English/Russian standards speech for interpreters.</p></sec></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>полилингвальная/поликультурная личность</kwd><kwd>межкультурная компетенция</kwd><kwd>родной и иностранный языки</kwd><kwd>обучение иностранному языку и переводу</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>polylingual individual/polyculturally educated individual</kwd><kwd>intercultural competence</kwd><kwd>native and foreign languages</kwd><kwd>foreign language and translation training</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Pym A., Malmkjær K., Gutiérrez-Colón Plana M.
